Duo swims at World Trials

Two former Hudson High School swimmers competed at the 2017 Phillips 66 National Championships and World Championship Trials June 27 to July 1 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.

Ross Palazzo, a rising sophomore at the University of Florida, placed 13th in 200-meter breaststroke with a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 13.78 seconds.

He also placed 24th in the 100 breaststroke and 26th in the 50 breaststroke. Palazzo swam a personal best 4:23 in the 400-yard individual medley.

Palazzo, a member of the Hudson Explorers Aquatics Team, set HEAT and Lake Erie Swimming records in the 200 breaststroke and the 400 IM.

Paige Kelly, a rising junior for the University of Kentucky, placed 26th in the 800 freestyle with a personal-best time of 8:48.46) and 29th in the 1,500 freestyle with a personal-best clocking of 16:59.59.

As a result of her performances, Kelly qualified for the US Open, which is scheduled for Aug. 2 to 6 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
