Piano recital will benefit students heading to Italy

BOSTON HEIGHTS -- Steinway Piano Gallery Cleveland and Legacy Arts International will host a concert by internationally-acclaimed pianist Cristina Altamura June 28 at 6 p.m. at the Steinway Piano Gallery at 334 East Hines Hill Road in Boston Heights. The following day, June 29, from noon to 4 p.m., Altamura will offer a master class.

The two-day event will commence with A Fine Romance, a one-hour recital that will include Gershwin favorites such as original song transcriptions, "The Man I Love" and "I've Got Rhythm," and Chopin miniatures including mazurkas, waltzes, tudes, and preludes.

On the following day, Altamura will lead a master class and information session about the "Nuova Coppa Pianisti" Osimo International Piano Competition. The class will concentrate on informing and preparing young pianists, ages 12-36, for the December 2017 auditions for travel grants to the competition in Osimo, Italy.

To apply for the master class, applicants should email the following materials to: info@legacyartsinternational.org by June 15: Contact information: name, age, phone, email; biography: list of teachers, schools, summer programs attended, years of study; proposed repertoire: name of work, composer, length; letter of recommendation from a teacher or distinguished musician, including their contact information.

Pianist, educator, and impresaria, Altamura has a multi-hued career shaped by a rich understanding of musical traditions. She is known for her crystalline technique, inspired musicality, innovative collaborations, and creative programming.

Altamura is currently the Associate Artistic Director and U.S. liaison for the Nuova Coppa Pianisti, Italy's oldest piano competition.

Founder and Director of Legacy Arts International, a musical arts non-for-profit in Princeton, New Jersey that preserves the legacies of significant artists, Altamura has served on the faculties of the United Nations International School and Rutgers University.

Director of the Altamura Studio Summer Piano Lab, she is currently compiling curriculum and performance programs for teaching bitKlavier, a next generation keyboard technology developed by Princeton University composer, Dan Trueman.

She is authoring a book about the impact of the internationally influential piano master teacher, Franco Scala, founder and director of the world-renowned L'Accademia Pianistica in Imola, Italy.

The Nuova Coppa Pianisti Osimo International Piano Competition seeks to provide an opportunity for young Italian and international pianists to meet.

The competition awards talented students with cash prizes, scholarships, concerts, and educational activities to promote and facilitate the study of piano and music.

A main component is to encourage individual growth while offering an opportunity to exchange artistic ideas in a nurturing atmosphere.
