Hudson Based Fitness Center Joins the Race Against Colon Cancer
LifeCenter Plus Gets Behind a Cure to Kick Cancer in the Can
October 6 2015 (Akron, Ohio) -- There are no butts about it, colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men and women in the U.S, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Of all the types of cancer, colon cancer is one of the most preventable and, if caught early, one of the most curable.
Jerry Lynch, owner of LifeCenter Plus, Hudson understands the scope and devastation cancer brings to a family. After losing his mother, Nancy and father, Jerry to colon cancer he is determined to support and contribute to a wide range of charitable programs and events.
“It is an honor, on so many levels, for LifeCenter Plus to help present the inaugural Scope It Out 5K with the Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation,” Jerry Lynch, owner of LifeCenter Plus said. “Our commitment to health and wellness extends beyond our club doors and into the neighborhoods we serve. We are dedicated to helping our members and surrounding communities live healthier lives.”
The Scope It Out 5K race series is one of the fastest growing in the country and currently takes place in 7 other cities, expanding into Akron, OH this year as its 8th race location. Every year LifeCenter Plus makes it a priority to contribute to a wide range of charitable programs and events. In 2012, LifeCenter Plus’s Director of Marketing, Jessica Koly experienced a close call with her mother, Mary, who was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. Since being diagnosed, the Koly family and their friends have participated in two Scope It Out 5K events in Chicago, 2013, and Pittsburgh, 2014.
“I am excited to bring the inaugural Scope It Out 5K to my home town of Akron, Ohio this year” Koly said. “It’s a great opportunity to raise awareness for colorectal cancer and I am fortunate to still have my mom here and be able to participate with her in the race.”
With two weeks to go before the race date, the inaugural event is expected to attract approximately 300 participants. “We have people donating and registering for the race every day,” Lynch said. “We anticipate a great community turnout for the Akron area’s first colorectal cancer awareness event.”
The inaugural Scope It Out 5K presented by LifeCenter Plus and Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation begins at First & Main 43 Village Way, Hudson, Ohio, 8 am. (On the Green)
Day of registration beings at 6:30 am, On the Green.
