Hudson Girl Won the Championship at the Newgy Ohio Open Tournament

Janset Aykanat, 8 years old third grade student from McDowell Elementary School, competed at the Fall 2015 $5000 Newgy Ohio Open Table Tennis Championship in North Canton, Ohio on September 11th-12th.

Being the youngest table tennis player in the tournament, Janset played in the U600, U800 and U1000 events. Janset won the championship trophy at the U600 event by beating Hongqing Yu from Chattanooga in three straight games. After the tournament her USATT rating jumped up from 162 to 490. Janset is currently in top 5 in the nation at her age group.

In addition, Janset’s father, Aydin Aykanat, 41 years old Hudson Resident, won the U2000 event and $200 money award by beating Alexander Itunin from Columbus OH in the final by 3-1.

The three star USATT sanctioned tournament was organized by Samson Dubina Table Tennis Academy and was attended by more than 150 players including some elite players from Midwest, CA, TX, and MD. The players competed in 12 rated events and an open competition with giant round robin format. The Newgy Ohio Open concluded with California's Dan Liu taking top honors by winning both the U2600 and Open events with 20 consecutive wins!
