Akron- Catholic Charities Community Services of Summit County is partnering with the Barberton City Schools and St. Augustine School for a new youth mentoring program.  Mentoring Adolescents through Guidance, Inspiration, and Compassion (MAGIC) is a result of Catholic Charities receiving a grant from the State of Ohio through its Community Connectors program.

Joining the Barberton City Schools and St. Augustine in this program are community partners: Fifth Third Bank, Stark State College, Lake Anna YMCA, Gardner Pie Company, Pleasant Pointe/Pleasant View, CC Supply, John Carroll University, Ursuline College, Notre Dame College, Fast Lane Bowling Center and the City of Barberton.

Mentees will go through the program during the 2015-16 school year and spend up to three hours per week with mentors. The business partners will support the program by hosting visits and providing educational materials. The mentees also will visit Camp Christopher in Bath., run by Catholic Charities.

In order to thrive, young people need the support of caring adults.  Consider becoming involved in this community partnership today.  Mentors help by: improving young people's attitudes toward their parents, peers and teachers; encouraging students to stay motivated and focused on their education; providing a positive way for young people to spend free time; helping young people face daily challenges, and offering young people opportunities to consider new career paths and acquire much-needed economic skills and knowledge.
