HUDSON KGK Gardening & Design Corp announced the addition of Derek Kuryla PLA, ASLA to its Hudson design/build team.
Kuryla will spearhead the company's expansion into the public and private arena; namely municipal, streetscape, parks and recreation, educational and corporate campuses, multifamily housing, and urban design projects. Kuryla brings a different perspective and a collaborative approach to KGK's design studio efforts in the residential design/build market that KGK has focused on for more than 30 years.
He joins KGK after receiving a bachelor's of science, cum laude, in landscape architecture from The Ohio State University and working as a design professional for MKSK Studios of Columbus. During his tenure at MKSK, Derek's efforts were focused on the planning and design phases of several high profile projects including The Ohio State University 15th & High Gateway, Columbus Metropolitan Main Library Renovations, Wells Barn at Franklin Park Conservatory, Nationwide Plaza Renovations, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Clinical Sciences Pavilion, Parks Edge Condominiums Phase I, OSU 'Ohio Field' North High Street Landscape, Rose Music Center at the Heights, Buggyworks Arena District Phase II, and Franklin Park Conservatory Atrium Improvements. Prior to his formal schooling Kuryla developed several years of practical knowledge in KGK's landscape construction division.
"His experience at MKSK in Columbus, which is a very progressive city in terms of landscape architecture, will allow us to serve the needs of a new client base with extensive capabilities," said Ken Kuryla, president of KGK. "We are very proud to bring such a talented design professional back to our family business to continue on as a second generation firm.
